Boxing and the Olympics, an increasingly complicated relationship. While the noble art has given rise to several controversies at previous Games, it is already disrupting the Paris 2024 Olympics. The IOC (International Olympic Committee) announced on Friday June 24 that the competitions planned in two years will no longer be placed under aegis of the IBA, the International Boxing Federation.
“The IOC administration will exceptionally develop alternative models for the organization of these boxing competitions, working closely with the Paris 2024 Organizing Committee and athlete representatives.“, specifies the IOC in a press release.
Boxing qualifying events and competitions at the Olympic Games Paris 2024 will not be run under the authority of the International Boxing Association (IBA).
The IOC Executive Board decision follows the continuing and concerning issues of IBA.

The authority shares its “various concerns“, concerning as much the sportsman and the refereeing, questioned during previous Games, as the IBA itself, its governance and its financing. The international boxing association also sees its recognition by the IOC still suspended, after an investigation carried out by the Olympic body in 2019.
