EXCLUSIVE – A statue in homage to Jacques Demy’s film was inaugurated on Saturday as part of the Rochefort event, in the presence of the former President of the Republic and Julie Gayet.
“We can’t see it, it’s too small!”exclaims a septuagenarian place Colbert in Rochefort (Charente-Maritime), about François Hollande. “Flamby!”, another has fun. The interested party arrived hand in hand with Julie Gayet to inaugurate a sculpture representing the Demoiselles de Rochefort. Rosalie Varda, one of Jacques Demy’s daughters, did not hide her emotion and invited the Rochefortais to go to the port to participate in cultural activities.
The companion of the former President of the Republic is at the initiative of the Twin Sisters festival which combines music and images and ended this Saturday. She launched: “see you next year” while the horns sounded celebrating a wedding. Sole surviving young lady, Catherine Deneuve was absent from the event. Former extras who had participated in the filming of the famous film were present, on the other hand. “They are doing something between them… We are going to see this statue!”irritated a passer-by.
The event announced at 3:30 p.m. had started twenty minutes late. “It was the same for the opening concert at the Corderie Royale which started an hour and a half late”, protests a Rochefortaise. And to add, to the address of the former president: “I gave him a kiss once, I didn’t believe he would be there. Good newlywed, he only has that to do…”. The applause crackles when the veil falls on the statues. “We don’t see their faces, it’s very stylized”regrets a resident. “They look like inflatable dolls“, observed young people. “For once, it didn’t rain”rejoiced a curious.
