Daily pro-Real Madrid, Marca has to face a lot of criticism following the publication of its front page, which sends six players from the Spanish club back to their African origins. A publication that has angered many Internet users in recent hours.
The front page of Marca is controversial.
This is what we can call a bad buzz. On Sunday evening, Marca revealed its front page of today’s edition celebrating six Real Madrid players: Antonio Rdiger, Aurlien Tchouamni, Eduardo Camavinga, Ferland Mendy, David Alaba and Karim Benzema. So far, no apparent problems. Nevertheless, the Spanish newspaper illustrated its cover with these Meringues by referring them to their African origins.
Marca touts Real’s pro-African recruitment policy
Indeed, this front page represents the six players surrounding an illustration of the continent with the mention AfricaPower . In the background, images of the fauna and flora that can be found on this piece of land of more than 30 million square kilometres. An editorial choice which aims to highlight the new recruitment strategy of the recent European champion.
Real Madrid have found a new roadmap in its transfer policy. They boast of having African roots despite having grown up far from the continent. They reinforce a path that was opened with Eto’o, Geremi, Zidane, Makelele or Diarra , can we read on this One. A justification that has a lot of trouble passing on social networks.
Five ns players in Europe
And for good reason, Internet users do not understand this rapprochement made by the Spanish newspaper since they believe that these players have an almost non-existent link with the continent of origin of their parents. Apart from Camavinga, born in Angola, all the other Merengues chosen for this front page were born in Europe, where they defend the colors of France, Germany and Austria. A bad buzz for Marca, which probably did not expect to cause such an outcry outside the Kingdom.
