Like his other tricolor teammates, Julian Alaphilippe and Remi Cavagna, Florian Senechal (Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl Team) was not selected by his team to participate in the 109th Tour de France (July 1-24). The one who has just been crowned French road champion reacted for the first time to his non-selection. “I learned the news on Friday, before the French championships. I was disappointed but it gave me the motivation to do well in the league. I had hoped that being champion of France would change the game, but even for the world champion it does not matter… now I am a reserve. They made their decision, I’m just a runner“, he explains in an interview with RMC Sports.

The runner of Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl Team mentioned one of the factors of his non-selection: “The team informed me that they wanted to put Danes for the big start in Copenhagen to give a good image. I can understand it, marketing is important too. It’s a big advertisement for the Tour de France. We’ll watch the team on TV to see how they manage to win stages. Personally, I know that I have done well professionally and with results. I’m going to take a vacation and we’ll see the tricolor jersey on the roads of Italy in training camp and on the Tour of Spain.“
