The French actress contracted this virus transmitted by mosquitoes in Indonesia where she was on vacation. Currently hospitalized on site, she should return to France in the coming days.
While vacationing in Bali, Mathilda May contracted the dengue fever virus. This disease transmitted by mosquitoes can lead to more or less severe flu-like illnesses. The actress, who gave relatively reassuring news on her Instagram account, nevertheless had to be hospitalized on the spot before being repatriated in the coming days.
In a long message on her favorite social network, the actress, who has worked with Claude Chabrol, Georges Lautner, Claude Zidi and Jacques Demy in particular, took the opportunity, immobilized on her hospital bed, to praise our system. of health, but also to return to the lack of consideration from which our caregivers are currently suffering: “(…)As I slowly come to my senses, I think of the luck of being French, but also by association of ideas with this crisis in the health sector of our country (which has been crushing my heart for years) and the non- consideration of the successive public authorities vis-à-vis the hospital world and its caregivers while we have an exceptional system…“.
A plea for the French health system
The actress, who in 2019 received the Molière for best direction for her play Feasthas in fact found that in Indonesia, without sufficient means and without social security, his viral infection could perhaps not have been treated as it should be: “(…) It is clear that where I am, without mutual insurance, I would not have had access to this overpriced hospital (imagine with the local salaries…) It is therefore the great luxury here to be able to be treated at the hospital, as in many other countries, alas.»

Today, Mathilda May, thinks that our healthcare system – “of which France has always been proud– is weakened. The last words of her comment on Instagram look like a real plea to defend our health philosophy which she believes is very threatened: “Access to care for ALL is the basis of a just society. We must preserve this essential and exemplary human value at all costs. Beyond political divisions, I am talking here about equity, fraternity and ethics. France must remain this noble country which protects these citizens from the barbarism of an absurd world where the door is closed to the sick without money. Let’s defend the hospitals that are screaming and dying of not being heard.“.
