The star’s lawyers Pirates of the Caribbean Respond to Amber Heard’s camp’s request to have the trial called off after learning that one of the seven jurors was not supposed to take part in the trial.
New twist in the Heard-Depp case. On Friday, Amber Heard’s lawyers requested the cancellation of the defamation lawsuit between the former couple after learning that one of the seven jurors had not been contacted to participate.
On Monday, Johnny Depp’s camp counter-attacked by assuring that the verdict should be maintained, report the American media whose variety and Entertainment Weekly. The star’s lawyers claim that the actress was aware of the situation.
According to them, it has also provided no evidence that this situation had directly harmed him: “The verdict was obtained on the basis of irrefutable evidence, consistent with the law and this should not be evaded. Mr. Depp asks the court to deny this request for a new trial, which is completely frivolous.”
In a document released on Friday, Amber Heard’s lawyers denounced the presence of a bad juror at the trial. They have in their sights a person who would have taken the place of another member of his family, who bears the same name as him. It is still unclear what their relationship is.
“As the court will agree, it is particularly disturbing that an individual not assigned to a jury is participating despite everything – especially in a case like this”, wrote in a document the lawyers of Amber Heard who could get the american media Deadline.
Deprived of her right to a fair trial
According to Elaine Bredehoft, the actress’ lawyer, her client has been deprived of her right to a fair trial and is demanding a new trial. The lawyer had already requested the cancellation last weekarguing that the evidence against Amber Heard was unfounded.
Elaine Bredehoft had let it be known at the end of June that her client wished to appeal. The day after the verdict, she even indicated that the actress could “absolutely not” pay 10 million in damages to Johnny Depp.
Jurors initially ordered Amber Heard to pay her ex-husband $15 million in damages – reduced to $10.35 million due to a local law capping punitive damages.
Johnny Depp attacked Amber Heard in defamation regarding a column published by the washington post in 2018. The star of Pirates of the Caribbean claimed 50 million dollars in damages, believing that this platform had destroyed his career and his reputation.
