“A daily program on the news of the festival”

This agreement will allow Canal+ to broadcast the opening and closing ceremonies and to have exclusive access to the red carpet. In addition, the channel will offer “a daily program on the news of the festival” which will be presented by Antoine de Caunes from Venice. This will be the great return to daily on the channel of the former host of the “Grand journal” after his replacement by Maïtena Biraben in 2015.

We are very proud to be able to exclusively offer our subscribers in France, but also in several other countries in Europe and Africa, unparalleled coverage of the event thanks to this unique partnership.“, reacted the boss of Canal + Maxime Saada in the press release, while specifying that Vivendi, to which the encrypted group belongs, intends “play a leading role in the development and promotion of Italian culture“.

The arrival of the Venice Film Festival on Canal+ will allow the group to compensate for the loss of the Cannes festival after 28 years of presence on its antenna, taken over this year by France Télévisions in partnership with “Brut”. “We faced an overbidding from the public service, which offered more money than us“, had justified Gérald Brice-Viret, director of the antennas and programs of the encrypted group, in the pages of the “Journal du dimanche” at the end of 2021.
