Shortly before its fifth birthday, the Karoq reached full maturity, offering itself the traditional mid-career facelift. It refines its look (larger and hexagonal grille, redesigned shields, elongated spoiler) to cut through the air better (aero improved by more than 9%). The model also offers new (optional) equipment: LED matrix headlights, three-zone air conditioning, recycled plastic upholstery and electric passenger seat with memory function. On the other hand, the Karoq remains deprived of plug-in hybrid or electric variants. It is satisfied with simple gasoline engines (110, 150 or 190 hp) or diesel (115 or 150 hp). But the 150 hp gasoline in this test is vigorous and can temporarily cut two of its four cylinders, to consume less. On the way, we appreciate the very good suspension comfort. At the front, we find the typical atmosphere of the products of the Volkswagen group, with sober and dark furniture, but which seems made to last. At the rear, legroom is generous and we recommend the Varioflex option, which replaces the bench seat with three individual seats, adjustable in inclination or even in length for the two sides. We also appreciate the Family pack comprising two retractable shelves surmounted by a support for a tablet/smartphone. In conclusion, we note that this facelift does not transfigure the Karoq and that the technical evolution is even rather timid given the absence of electrification. We nevertheless find the smart and functional compact SUV (especially with the Varioflex option) that we already knew. But we regret that the price has risen so much over time: the model has increased by 6,000 euros in less than five years! And you always have to supplement the equipment at an additional cost. Skoda is definitely no longer the low cost brand it used to be! Within the VW group, it is now Seat that offers us the most for our money. However, Seat offers a technical clone of the Karoq: the Ateca, which costs 2,000 euros less than this Skoda…
