American basketball and Boston Celtics legend Bill Russell died on Sunday July 31 at the age of 88, his family announced. Eleven times champion of the prestigious American league between 1957 and 1969he was also crowned best player in the NBA five times, and won Olympic gold in 1956 with the selection of the United States.
