Raptors part ways with Armoni Brooks

The Raptors’ roster is packed, so the team needs to do some cleaning up this summer.

Unsurprisingly, the club has thus decided to part ways with Armoni Brooks, whose $1.8 million contract for next season was only guaranteed up to $50,000. But this guarantee increased to 250,000 dollars from August 1, and the Canadian club therefore released the former Rockets player upstream.

At 24, and with his reputation as a shooter, Armoni Brooks has a good chance of being invited to a “training camp” to try to find a place in a franchise.

Undrafted when he left Houston University, the point guard/back had won his place in the NBA via a “two-way contract” with the Rockets, displaying his 3-point qualities (38.2% success on 8 attempts by game) in 2020/21. The problem is that his efficiency from afar collapsed last season (29.7%) and that’s bound to be annoying when you’re a shooter for whom that’s the main strength.

Cut by Houston in February, he had been revived by the Raptors, in search of an external address. Without much success.

Now, Toronto has 16 players under contract for next season, not counting the “two-way players”, and the club has still not signed its rookie, Christian Koloko. So there should still be some movement.
