Netflix will broadcast a documentary on the epic “And1”

The “And1” brand rolled around in the early 2000s. Originally, it was a collective of streetballers with a spectacular game that created the spark with the famous “Mixtape And 1”, where the show and the moves from elsewhere have allowed a new audience to take an interest in basketball.

Many showmen had been able to make a name for themselves, which still resonates today like “The Professor”, “Hot Sauce”, or even Rafer Alston aka “Skip to My Lou”, who then had a great career in the NBA.

This kind of “Harlem Globe Trotter 2.0” generated a lot of money since a clothing brand had been created and even sponsored professional players. The brand also made money with its “And1 Mixtapes” DVD-cassettes, sold around the world

Netflix took an interest in this phenomenon to produce the documentary entitled “The Rise and Fall of And1”. The documentary therefore traces the skyrocketing of this phenomenon and then its fall, almost as fast.

“It’s not just the story of streetball legends who kickstarted a culture-changing movement and realized their dream of getting paid to play basketball when virtually everyone world had excluded them. It is also the story of ordinary people around the world who, thanks to And1, finally had access to the energy and the epitome of basketball played with energy”, says director Kevin Wilson.

The doc “The Rise and Fall of And1” will be available from August 23 on Netflix.
