Unemployment is on the rise again in Wallonia – Economic Policy

The number of unemployed job seekers (DEI) increased by 2.9% or 6,071 units in Wallonia in July compared to July 2021, an increase partly attributable to an administrative change and the arrival of many young people registered in the Forem at the end of their studies.

At the end of July, Wallonia had 213,611 DEI, or 13.3% of the Walloon working population, 43% of whom have been unemployed for two years or more. One month apart, i.e. compared to June 2022, the number of DEIs is up by 18,552 units.

According to Forem, the number of job seekers seeking benefits still continued to decline in July, with a decrease of 5% or 6,769 people.

In addition, the number of DEI aged 50 and over also continues to decline: -1.7%.

Finally, the Forem indicates that in July it posted 43,605 job offers, a number up by 21%.
