Kyle Lowry still troubled by family issues

Kyle Lowry spoke for the first time this summer in front of the media, on the occasion of a charity golf tournament organized by the foundation of his former coach Nick Nurse.

The leader notably returned to the family problems he has been encountering since the beginning of the year, and which had notably cost him several absences during the regular season (from January 17 to February 1 and from February 28 to 3 march). Extra-sporting concerns, which he did not want to reveal explicitly, but which last and which still weigh on him mentally today.

“I’m still dealing with it all”did he declare. “I’ll say more when things get better. But it’s definitely something that derailed my whole season and derailed me for a long time. Even today, it is a problem that I face every day. I actually got a call about it just now. That’s life. You have to keep moving forward, focus on the things you can control.”

A difficult worry to evacuate

The Heat point guard has reconsidered his position on his first hot reaction after the loss in the conference final against the Celtics, but remains convinced that these family worries prevented him from evolving at 100%, in addition to having to deal with small physical glitches.

“We’ve had a great year. We were one shot away from the Finals”he recalled. “But last season was not like the previous ones. You have to have a strong mind to be able to say, ‘OK, there’s this thing, but when I’m on the pitch and I can do this other thing, let me put that aside for a bit. It is very difficult, because as soon as you have finished your activity, or what you are doing, to take your mind off it, it comes right back”.

At 36, Kyle Lowry remains determined to come back strong next season and is doing the work necessary to do so this offseason. “You know me, you know how I work. I don’t talk, I just go out there and do the job. We’ll get there when the time comes.”
