NFL – Football: Zach Wilson injured his right knee in the Jets’ preseason game

The New York Jets preseason schedule got off to the worst possible start, as quarterback Zach Wilson injured his right knee in the second over on offense and immediately limped to locker room Friday night at Lincoln Financial Field.

Wilson’s knee appeared to deform in a non-contact move as he tried to avoid a tackle on a run against the Philadelphia Eagles. He fell awkwardly before limping to his feet.

Wilson injured the same knee last season. He had then sprained the posterior cruciate ligament during a defeat in week number 7 and he had missed four games. The second-year quarterback will undergo magnetic resonance imaging on Saturday to determine the extent of his injury.

Wilson was off to a bad start against the Eagles, coming off an interception on the Jets’ fifth game. Four games later, he was injured.

He was replaced by quarterback Mike White. The usual replacement, Joe Flacco, was not in uniform.

The Jets have high hopes for Wilson in his second year, confident he can improve after a tough rookie year. During the offseason, the Jets focused on offering weapons to Wilson, drafted second overall in 2021, including selecting receiver Garrett Wilson 10th overall in the draft.
