NFL: Kelle Mond shines in loss for Vikings

In the absence of Kirk Cousins, who has COVID-19, quarterback Kelle Mond stood out in a 26-20 loss to the Minnesota Vikings against the Raiders on Sunday in Las Vegas.

Mond was called into the fray in the second quarter in this pre-season duel. After appearing hesitant on his first two relay attempts, he finally spotted Albert Wilson in the end zone for the first time, in the third quarter.

The 23-year-old athlete added some at the very end of the duel, in a losing cause. He allowed Wilson to get his second major of the game by hitting it with a precise pass from 20 yards.

Mond eventually had nine of 14 throw-ins and had 119 yards through the air.

The winners had more success thanks to their ground game. Quarterback Jarret Stidham was the first to add six points to the board on a four-yard run, then running back Brittain Brown only had to go one yard to score a major late in the game.

Behind the center of the Raiders, Nick Mullens has been the most successful. The quarterback completed seven of his nine stints, but most importantly managed a 34-yard touchdown pass when spotting DJ Turner in the third quarter.

It’s the second win in as many preseason games for the Raiders, who beat the Jacksonville Jaguars 27-11 last week.
