NFL: Mac Jones suffered severe ankle sprain

The New England Patriots have announced quarterback Mac Jones suffered a severe left ankle sprain in Sunday’s game against the Baltimore Ravens.

The team hopes Jones can avoid surgery. It should not be the starting lineup in the team’s next meeting against Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers.

The quarterback, who is in his second season in the NFL, appeared to be injured on his team’s last offensive play in the game, with 1:55 remaining. Jones finished the game with 321 yards, completing 22 of 32 pass attempts and throwing three interceptions.

It’s the second time in three games that the 24-year-old quarterback has suffered an injury after suffering back pain during the first week of activity against the Miami Dolphins.

If Jones is indeed forced to miss the team’s next game, veteran Brian Hoyer should be the starting quarterback.
