The energy crisis is pushing Belgians to build and renovate differently, with the main objective of reducing their energy consumption, according to a study by Bobex, a site for comparing quotes from construction and renovation companies. There was thus a 195% growth in the demand for solar panels and almost +400% in requests for roof insulation in September.
If the Belgians continue to invest in their brick, they are now doing so in a very targeted way. The energy crisis thus has a positive impact on the sustainable sectors (from +100 to +200%) and negative on the aesthetic or energy-consuming sectors (from +10 to -30%).
In 2022, the Bobex platform has indeed recorded an increase in demand for solar panels of no less than 195%, while charging stations are also booming (+194%).
Insulation of roofs, walls and floors is on the rise due to rising electricity and gas prices. Bobex notably recorded growth of 86% for cavity wall insulation and 91% for that of roofs. But September itself saw a nearly 400% increase in roof insulation, which offers a more immediate return, compared to the same period in 2021, Bobex notes.
Due to the energy crisis, Belgians are also looking for a new condensing boiler and demand is increasing by 22%. Heat pumps are doing even better, with growth of 215%. Nevertheless, customers are often shocked by the initial budget required to install a heat pump (5,000 to 15,000 euros).
