Eclo is the new name of “Champignon de Bruxelles”, the largest underground farm in Belgium, located in the Caves de Cureghem. Last year, it produced 72 tons of fresh mushrooms there, 300 tons of mushroom substrates but also, via a vertical farm, micro-shoots and aromatic plants. It specializes in exotic mushrooms (shiitake, eryngii, nameko, etc.) which it produces using recycled waste such as spent grains from the Cantillon Brewery or organic bread residues from the Colruyt group and Bon Pain. This production of substrates for mushrooms from organic residues reached 330 tonnes last year. Eclo intends to become the European leader in the production of these organic, circular and local substrates. To do this, it has just completed a series A funding round. It has raised 4.7 million euros from renowned investors such as Noshaq, Investsud Bois (fund reserved for the wood sector created by InvestSud and the Walloon Region ) or GoGreen Capital (impact venture capital). This fundraising is intended to achieve the European objective but also to finance the installation in 2023 of a high-tech factory located in Villers-le-Bouillet in the province of Li├Ęge.
