Thirty Belgian stores stand out in the BeCommerce Shopping 100 – Companies

Thirty-one Belgian stores appear in the list of the 100 best online shops on the Belgian market, noted Thursday the Belgian association of online commerce BeCommerce.

The “Shopping 100” ranking compiled by the association shows that Belgian companies can compete with large international online shopscomments BeCommerce.

Vinyls, books and newspapers are doing better and better on the Belgian online market. “Young people are returning to print books and sharing their reading experiences online. Despite reading the book in print, the list shows that the books are purchased online”, says Sofie Geeroms, Managing Director of BeCommerce. The vinyl market would experience a 66% increase in 2021.

The Top Belgian DNA ranking only includes Belgian e-commerce companies. It is dominated by hln.be (30th in the Shopping 100) while De Morgen ranks fifth (46th internationally). “Readers seem to be becoming more and more familiar with a large number of paywalled articles in various newspapers, which lowers the payment threshold for online news“, explains BeCommerce.

Among the Belgian online shops, various mobility applications have become more popular. Belgianrail, Le Tec and STIB-MIVB are all in the top 20 Belgian online shops. Furthermore, the shops selling bulky and expensive products are also well represented in the Belgian ranking, such as Vandenborre (9th), Casa (12th) and Krefel (14th).

The rankings established by the association of companies active on the Belgian digital market are based on eight parameters, such as the Search Engine Results Page, the number of visitors, the maturity of the site and the three main sales markets.

Internationally, Facebook, Instagram, Microsoft, Apple and Spotify dominate the ranking. On the Belgian side, we find behind the portal of Het Laatste Nieuws, Telenet, 2dehands, Proximus and De Morgen.
