Cartoon Movie aims to create synergy between producers, investors, distributors and sales agents of animated films. An annual meeting place, the show allows directors to find funding for the production of their project. The event, created with the support of the European Commission’s Media programme, also boosts the world of European animation.
For the 4th consecutive year, the Cartoon Movie puts the animation cinema of a European country on the front of the stage. In 2020, the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg was chosen.
A Luxembourg delegation made up of representatives of the Film Fund (co-organizer of the event), 8 production companies and 5 studios (a_BAHN, Bac Cinema, Bidibul Productions, CGLux, Doghouse Films & Studio, Fabrique d’Images & The Picture FactoryMelusine Productions & Studio 352, Paul Thiltges Distributions, Zeilt productions & Studio as well as a post-production/sound company (Philophon) will travel to Bordeaux to promote national works.
In addition, 6 students from the BTS in Animation Drawing from the Lycée des Arts et Métiers and 4 students from the Bachelor Animation from the University of Luxembourg will be present to discover the Cartoon Movie and participate in the coaching program.
Among 66 films selected, 2 Luxembourg co-productions will be among the projects pitched on March 4:
- Molesworth (project in development), co-produced by Melusine Productions;
- Ooops! The Adventure continues … (project in production), co-produced by Fabrique d’Images.
Finally, among the finalists of Cartoon Tributes 2020, prize rewarding the work of directors, producers and distributors, we find the Luxembourg production company Doghouse Movies in the category “European Producer of the Year” for the feature film Fritzi – A Miraculous Revolutionary Talea co-production involving 4 countries (Germany, Luxembourg, Belgium, Czech Republic).
Thanks to Cartoon Movie, 333 films have to date been financed for a total budget of 2.2 billion euros. Many Luxembourg co-productions have been pitched there and have found funding there.
