For fifteen years, she held various positions of responsibility related to international matters and regional economic development in several ministerial offices in the Region. Wallonia and the Wallonia-Brussels Federation as well as the SRIW, the Regional Investment Company of Wallonia. In 2014, she succeeded Philippe Suinen as director of Awex and Wallonie-Bruxelles International (WBI). “Awex plays a dual role, explains the general administrator: on the one hand, helping Walloon companies to export and create partnerships abroad; on the other hand, attracting foreign investors to Wallonia. In order to To achieve its objectives, AWEX relies on a network of 90 economic and commercial advisers scattered around the world.WBI, for its part, is the structure that manages the international relations of the French Community and the Walloon Region. This encompasses research, academics, innovation and even culture. This double role gives me a very valuable overview.” An obvious corollary of her function, Pascale Delcomminette carries out numerous missions abroad: about fifteen each year, on average. The latter have been spaced out following the health crisis but their rhythm has now fully resumed. Latest: the state visit to Lithuania at the end of October. New president of the Manager of the Year jury, Pascale Delcomminette likes to underline how “this award honors entrepreneurs and allows great stories to be told. It also inspires young people to embark on the entrepreneurship”. Beyond the figures and results scrutinized by the jury, the president also notes how important the societal and environmental dimensions have become over the years. “Today, ecological transition, sustainability and diversity have become essential for companies, she testifies. In addition to these aspects, I also notice the ability to rebound shown by managers after the health crisis. More broadly, we see that human criteria play an increasingly important role, particularly in the way the company is managed and how the manager considers its development.” The candidates selected for the 2022 vintage of the Manager of the Year also reflect the Walloon and Brussels economy quite faithfully, she notes. “The companies selected are active in a wide variety of sectors, from transport and logistics to agri-food, including the circular economy, IT and laser micro-machining. Companies, in addition, each leader in their field, and displaying great ambitions for growth.”
