Strike in sight on the rail on November 29 – Companies

(Belga) The union common front of railway workers has filed a strike notice for November 29, he announced on Tuesday morning. The three unions disapprove of the “insufficient investment” defined by the federal government during the last budget conclave.

“These decisions do not allow the ambitions for the development and sustainability of rail to be fully realized, particularly in the context of the conclusion of service and performance contracts for SNCB and Infrabel”, they denounce. The common front also wishes “to recall its demands for the implementation of urgent measures to put an end to the persistent deterioration of the working conditions of railway workers, mainly due to lack of staff”. Overall, the three organizations criticize “the absence of positive prospects for all railway workers”. The notice covers railway workers from Monday 28 at 10 p.m. to Tuesday 29 at the same time. A conciliation meeting will take place on Friday between the unions and the management of the railways. The Federal Minister for Mobility, Georges Gilkinet, said he hoped in a press release that it “could lead positively”, stressing that the government “has given many new means to the train for two years”. “An additional two billion are on the table to finance the contracts of the two railway companies and the government’s projects. It’s been a very long time since there has been so much ambition for the rail and for its workers”, advances M Gilkinet. “This is something that should reassure and satisfy the unions.” (Belga)
