pride tells an incredible but true story! Consider the irresistible association of Welsh miners and London gays against Margaret Thatcher.

When Gay Pride activists come to the rescue of the working class strangled by the government, England loses its composure!

The story : Summer 1984. During the strike voted by the National Union of Miners, a group of gay and lesbian activists decides to raise funds to help the families of the strikers. They spot a remote village in Wales and they board a minibus to go and hand over the money themselves. The reception is mixed!

Our opinion : pride of Matthew Warchus is inspired by an authentic and unknown episode which took place during the great strike of the miners, embarrassed by this unexpected support from another community of excluded people: the gays. Arrived from London, the latter come to play the saviors of the working class in a Welsh village, torn between tradition of welcome and good-natured sectarianism. As distinguished guests, we find Bill Nighy (Good Morning England) and Imelda Staunton (the sadistic Defense Against the Dark Arts professor in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix).

Against the backdrop of a clash of cultures, pride is an exciting social comedy as only the English can do. With the climax of a disco boom led by a Dominic West (the actor of the cult series Bugged) unleashed.

This generous ode to mutual aid and fraternity takes a darker turn to evoke homophobic insults, beatings and the specter of AIDS. But the good mood prevails and pride is in line with The Full Monty and The Virtuosos: It’s a film that does good where it hurts. A social comedy that restores confidence in human nature.

Let’s go ? Yes. Militant work and unbridled comedy, pride is a nugget!
