The Denver Broncos released running back Melvin Gordon III, who suffered another fumble in Denver’s overtime loss to the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday.
Gordon, 29, fumbled the ball at the Raiders’ one-yard line just before halftime on Sunday, his fifth such turnover this season. The Broncos recovered his loose ball on Sunday, but lost two to the opposition this season.
Meanwhile, Broncos running back Chase Edmonds, acquired by the team before the trade deadline earlier this month, suffered a sprained ankle and is expected to be sidelined for “a few weeks”, a source told ESPN’s Adam Schefter on Monday.
The Raiders beat the Broncos 22-16 in overtime.
A two-time Pro Bowl guest, Gordon has rushed for 318 yards and two touchdowns this season. In total, he had 541 yards in his third season with the Broncos.
In eight seasons in the NFL, he amassed 6,462 yards and 55 touchdowns on land. In total, he has generated 8,929 yards and 69 total touchdowns since his NFL debut.
Veterans Latavius Murray and Marlon Mack are the other running backs for the Broncos.
