Barbie Movie Booth at CCXP Invites Fans to Live a Fantasy Life on Plastic

As part of CCXP taking place this week in São Paulo, Brazil, Mattel is setting up a huge Barbie stand full of surprises for the fans. This is because the booth allows attendees to be part of the pink world of BARbie, so we had to take some photos to show everyone who couldn’t attend the event.

Featuring Margot Robbie as the titular character, Barbie marks the first time the world’s most famous doll has appeared in a live-action film. For years, Barbie has faced heavy criticism for setting unattainable beauty standards for young girls. Still, Mattel has tried to diversify its toy line by including dolls of different ethnic backgrounds and reinforcing Barbie’s image as a strong, independent woman who can do whatever she wants.

The IP should get another boost once Barbie hits theaters, as Robbie is producing the film through his LuckyChap Entertainment banner with Tom Ackerley. The company was behind Oscar-nominated feature films Me Tonya and Promising young womanin addition to producing DC’s Harley Quinn-centric Birds of prey. This means that LuckyChap has earned a reputation as a producer who invests in stories told from a female perspective. Barbie movie will likely shatter our collective expectations.

To make things more mysterious, Mattel still hasn’t revealed much about Barbie’s plot. All we know is that the movie will feature multiple versions of the character and her male sidekick Ken. So we could envision a sort of multiversal approach to the story. Besides Robbie, Issa Rae should also play a version of Barbie, while Ryan Gosling and Simu Liu will take over as the different versions of Ken progress.

BarbieThe star-studded cast of also includes Ritu Arya, Alexandra Shipp, Will Ferrell, Day of Neph, Dear friend, Michael Cera, Rhea Perlman, Kingsley BenAdirand Emerald Fennell. The film is directed by Oscar nominee Greta Gerwig (lady bird, Little woman) from a screenplay she wrote with Noah Baumbach (Marriage story, White noise).
