The Colts will rely on Nick Foles

Matt Ryan is having a very difficult season at quarterback for the Indianapolis Colts, which was notably marked by an attacking collapse last Saturday against the Minnesota Vikings. He will thus be left aside in favor of Nick Foles for the last three duels of the 2022 season.

Interim head coach Jeff Saturday made the announcement on Wednesday, saying he felt his team had a better chance of winning with Foles behind center. The Colts are down 4-9-1.

Ryan already lost the trust of former head coach Frank Reich earlier this season, with Sam Ehlinger preferred to him. With Saturday’s arrival in November, the 37-year-old veteran was back in management’s good graces.

However, he has lost four of his five starts since the arrival of Saturday. On Saturday, the Vikings completed the biggest comeback in NFL history — 33 points — by beating the Colts 39-36 in overtime. Ryan has only completed 19 of 33 aerial throw-ins during this encounter.

Foles hasn’t started a game on the Goodell circuit since Dec. 26, 2021. In his only game of the season, he helped the Chicago Bears beat the Seattle Seahawks 25-24.

In 11 NFL seasons, the 33-year-old quarterback played 68 games, throwing 82 touchdowns and 43 interceptions.

The Colts take on the Los Angeles Chargers at Lucas Oil Stadium on Monday.
