NFL: a 1000-yard rushing season for Bears quarterback Justin Fields

Justin Fields became just the third quarterback in NFL history to record 1,000 rushing yards on Sunday in a 25-20 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.

Michael Vick and Lamar Jackson had achieved the feat before him.

Heading into Sunday’s game against the Eagles (13-1), the Bears quarterback had rushed for 905 yards in 12 games since the start of the campaign. He added 95 yards to his tally to hit the 1,000-yard plateau.

Fields appeared to be injured following a run in the fourth quarter, but he returned to his position afterwards. He also joined Byron Pringle on 35 yards for a touchdown that approached the Bears (3-11) to five points from the Eagles late in the game.

Philadelphia, however, had the last laugh to record a 13e victory in 14 games this season. Jalen Hurts also hurt with his legs scoring three rushing touchdowns in the win. He finished the game with 62 yards rushing and 315 passing.

AJ Brown was Hurts’ favorite target in the game with 181 yards. DeVonta Smith also had a strong game with 126 yards on five catches.

Goff creates late-game magic

Jared Goff spotted tight end Brock Wright late in the game, and Wright scored for a 51-yard touchdown, propelling the Detroit Lions to a 20-17 victory over the New York Jets.

Detroit (7-7), which returned to the .500 mark with a seventh victory, has won three straight games and six of its last seven.

Leading 13-10 early in the fourth quarter, the Lions saw Zach Wilson complete his second touchdown pass of the game to CJ Uzomah from a one-yard distance.

Wilson was automatically behind center for the Jets (7-7) due to the rib injury that forced starter Mike White to sit out.

The New York sophomore quarterback completed 18 of 35 passes for 317 passing yards.

He notably completed a 20-yard pass to Elijah Moore to lead to a desperate field goal attempt by Greg Zuerlein on 58 yards, but the latter lacked precision.

The Surprising Lions will be on the road at the 16e week of activities as they visit the Carolina Panthers.

The Panthers have no solution against Pittsburgh

Mitch Trubisky threw for 179 yards and thanks to long offensive streaks on the ground, the Pittsburgh Steelers defeated the Carolina Panthers 24-16.

On duty following rookie Kenny Pickett’s concussion, Trubisky scored a touchdown on a one-yard run and avoided turnovers during the game. He was able to lead his team into the end zone on his first two possessions, going for 67 and 75 yards respectively for six points.

Najee Harris recorded 86 yards rushing and a touchdown on 24 carries and Jaylen Warren crossed the end zone on two yards for another major.

The Steelers (6-8) have now won three of their last four outings to go 6-8.

The Panthers (5-9) struggled on the ground being limited to just 21 yards on 16 carries. For his part, Sam Darnold completed 14 of his 23 passes, including one to DJ Moore for a 5-yard touchdown, and he got 225 yards through the air.

The Saints remain mathematically alive

Andy Dalton and Taysom Hill combined for three touchdown passes, and the New Orleans Saints to a 21-18 win over the Atlanta Falcons.

Rookie quarterback Desmond Ridder suffered the loss in his first career NFL start.

Juwan Johnson had 67 receiving yards, a new personal high. He also caught two assists for veteran Dalton’s middle finger.

Hill, for his part, had an explosive play connecting for 73 yards with rookie receiver Rashid Shaheed.

New Orleans (5-9) remains mathematically alive in an anemic NFC South Division, in which each club entered Week 15 with a negative record.

Atlanta (5-9) was trailing only by a field goal and threatening to tie or take the lead when Ridder joined fellow freshman Drake London on a fourth down and five yards to cross.

Trying to gain more ground, however, London fumbled the ball, the result of a fine move by Saints safety Justin Evans.

The Falcons started the week just one game behind the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who face the Cincinnati Bengals in the late afternoon.
