A return of Rob Gronkowski?

Retired tight end Rob Gronkowsi contacted the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last month to discuss a possible return to play.

“It was more of a conversation than anything else,” head coach Todd Bowles told the Tampa Bay Times.

“Usually when you think about maybe playing, you probably don’t really want to play. Since it was a simple discussion, I didn’t think much about it.

“Gronk” reportedly told the “Bucs” that he kept himself in shape. There has been talk of adding him to the practice squad to allow him to have a few weeks to fully return to a form that allows him to perform in the NFL. The 33-year-old athlete has finally decided to remain retired.

Gronkowsi had hung up his shoulder pads for the first time after the 2018 season, when he had just played nine campaigns with the New England Patriots. He had won three Super Bowl games with this team and his great friend Tom Brady.

The talented tight end came out of retirement to join quarterback for the Buccaneers in 2020. The two men once again enjoyed the thrill of victory and lifted the Vince-Lombardi Trophy together that year.

In 2021, it was more complex for “Gronk” who suffered from injuries. He caught 55 throws for 802 yards and six touchdowns in 12 games. The New York State native then announced his second retirement.

The Buccaneers certainly wouldn’t say no to a little help right now. The Florida club have lost three of their last four outings and hold a 6-8 record. However, he took advantage of the fact that the teams in his section were all having a bad year and took the No. 1 spot in the National Conference South standings.
