Child star of Mommy I missed the plane, Macaulay Culkin refused to play in the third film of the famous saga. Here’s why.
If a prince had to be found in the 90s, it would be easy to offer this title to Macaulay Culkin. The young comedian reigned over the first part of the decade after being discovered by John Hughes in the unknown Uncle Buck. The popularity of the child star then exploded very quickly thanks to Mom I missed the plane, a vehicle custom-designed by the teen movie king, writer and producer of the hit franchise. Despite the triumph of the second installment of the saga, Macaulay Culkin has yet decided not to slip into the skin of Kevin McCallister a third time.
From 1998 to 1994, the child star played in more than a dozen films, chaining the first roles in cult films like Richie Rich, My Girl or Richard in the land of magic books. So why not continue this momentum with Mom I missed the plane 3 ? According to the American media Uproxx, the third installment in the saga, released in 1997, should have been shot at the same time as the second. Tired of playing Kevin McCallister, Macaulay Culkin refused to re-enlist for a new film, the producers then eyeing his little brother Kieran, who played his cousin Fuller in the saga. Mom I missed the plane 3 would eventually see the light of day with a less charismatic actor, a certain Alex D. Linz, even getting a Razzie Award nomination for worst sequel.
Why the star of Mommy I missed the plane exploded in mid-flight
Macaulay Culkin didn’t have a minute to himself in the first part of the 90s. A frenetic pace and dangerous for the mental health of a young teenager whose parents were then vying for custody in the courts. Macaulay Culkin thus remembers a jealous, abusive and greedy father who regularly threatened to hit him if he did not obey him. Under constant pressure, the child star ended up exploding in midair. In 1994, the interpreter of Kevin McCallister therefore decided to suspend his career, to interrupt the relationship with his father and to file a complaint against his parents in order to obtain his emancipation and to keep control of his fortune then estimated at 17 millions of dollars.
