A documentary about punk and veganism

Captain Sensible from The Damned, Dennis Lyxzén from Refused and Tim McIlrath from Rise Against are among the few artists to explain the links between punk and veganism in the film Punk Rock Vegan Moviewritten and directed by Moby.

The film will first be screened at Slamdance film festival in Park City, Utah on January 20 before going live for free.

In a statement, Moby explains:Punk Rock Vegan Movie was made to highlight the surprising and inspiring history of punk and animal rights, but also to remind people of the importance and urgency of embracing the uncompromising ethics and actions of the original punk rock activist . Once the film has its world premiere at Slamdance, it will be yours. My goal is to give this film because I cannot, in good conscience, try to profit from what is essentially a labor of love and activism.”

In the film, we will find other interviews, such as those of the leader of Fugazi/Minor Threat, Ian MacKaye, Jane’s Addiction guitarist Dave Navarro, Rob Zombie, HR of Bad Brains, Steve Ignorant of Crass/Conflict, Walter Schreifels of Quicksand, Andy Hurley from Fall Out Boy and many more.

Moby recently told the Progressive Radio Network, “If you look at footage of people at a punk rock concert fighting and screaming their heads off, who would think that what they’re yelling is often about animal rights? So I wanted to shine a light on this fascinating activist culture that very few people outside the world of punk rock or animal rights know about.”

“My hope is that someone watching this movie is like, ‘Oh, these are my musical heroes, and they’re all kind of saying that using animals for food and destroying the only home we have no sense. Maybe, best case scenario, I’ll touch someone and help facilitate positive change.”
